Beaucarnea A small genus of slow-growing trees from arid regions of Mexico and Central America, related to agaves rather than palms despite the common name ponytail palm. Beaucarneas store water in a swollen, bulbous trunk base crowned with a fountain of long, narrow, cascading leaves. Indoors they make exceptionally forgiving plants, wanting bright light, little water, and almost no fuss.
