Dracaena A genus of roughly 120 species of trees and shrubs in the asparagus family, native mainly to Africa with a few species in southern Asia and Central America. Many dracaenas are grown as houseplants for their tough, architectural foliage, including the snake plant, Dracaena trifasciata, long placed in the separate genus Sansevieria. They are famously tolerant of low light and irregular watering, which is why they turn up in offices and dim living rooms everywhere.
