Zamioculcas A genus with a single species, Zamioculcas zamiifolia, an aroid from the dry woodlands of eastern Africa. Sold as the ZZ plant or Zanzibar gem, it has glossy, feather-like fronds rising from swollen underground stems that store water, making it famously tolerant of drought, deep shade, and general neglect. It has become one of the most popular low-maintenance houseplants for offices and dim corners.
