- The white bands are raised tubercles — wart-like bumps of tissue, not just surface coloring.
- It is often confused with Haworthia attenuata, which has tubercles on both leaf faces.
- In habitat it grows partly buried in the shade of shrubs, which is why it tolerates lower light than most succulents.
- It readily produces offsets ("pups") around the base that can be separated to make new plants.
