Phyllostachys aureosulcata is a cold-hardy running bamboo native to northeastern and eastern China, including Zhejiang Province. It forms upright groves of green canes marked by a distinctive yellow stripe in the sulcus, the groove that runs along each internode, and lower culms often show a characteristic zigzag kink. One of the most widely planted temperate bamboos, it is grown for privacy screens, hedges, and ornamental groves, and tolerates colder winters than most tall bamboos. The cultivar 'Spectabilis' is especially popular for its golden-yellow culms striped with green.
