Schlumbergera truncata is an epiphytic cactus native to the coastal mountains of southeastern Brazil, where it grows on trees and rocks in humid Atlantic Forest. Its flattened, segmented stems bear pointed, claw-like teeth along their edges, and in late autumn it produces showy, zygomorphic flowers in shades of pink, red, orange, white, or yellow. It is one of the most widely cultivated houseplant cacti in the world, valued for blooming around the Thanksgiving holiday in the Northern Hemisphere.
